De Chinese pianist Lang Lang wilde graag het Derde Pianoconcert (1921) van Prokofiev en het Tweede Pianoconcert van tijdgenoot Barttók (1933) opnemen. Door zijn contacten met gastdirigent Gustavo Dudamel was snel een afspraak met de Berliner Philarmoniker gemaakt. Het resultaat is een inspirerende Lang Lang die samen met Simon Rattle en het Berlijnse orkest voor veel passie en vuurwerk zorgt.
