HUGO/DIVERSE

Voor het album van Book of Longing (2007), waarbij Glass teksten van Leonard Cohen toonzette, verzorgde Tara Hugo de mezzo-sopraan partijen. Van beide kanten beviel de samenwerking zodanig dat Tara Hugo samen met Kurt Munkacsi een album met louter Songs van Glass hebben samengesteld. Het is een bijzonder album met liederen uit het Book of Longing, Monsters of Grace, Hydrogen Jukebox en nieuw werk waaronder teksten van Tara Hugo. Het resultaat is een intiem album met de bijzondere stem van Tara Hugo, die recht doet aan het werk van Glass en daarbij de specifieke sfeer weet op te roepen: ingetogen en verrassend.

Singer Tara Hugo re-imagines and reinterprets the Philip Glass songbook in Tara Hugo Sings Philip Glass. Glass is mostly known for his large-scale operas and symphonies. However his long-time producer Kurt Munkacsi had harbored a desire to hear the Glass songs in the context of a collection interpreted by singer who concentrates on communicating lyrics through her singing.

This set of songs also presents pieces that the composer wrote at different times of his career for different projects with different collaborators including Natalie Merchant, Allen Ginsberg, Leonard Cohen, and Mick Jagger. It also includes beautiful melodies written by Glass, arranged for small ensemble by Gureckis and set to lyrics written by Hugo.
