Het is 39 jaar geleden dat Leonard Cohen speelde op het 3e Isle Of Wight festival. Het was een gedenkwaardig festival, waarbij het publiek een uitzinnige menigte was geworden, opgezweept door onder meer Joan Beaz en Jimi Hendrix. Maar toen kwam Leonard Cohen, de Canadese singer-songwriter en dichter met zijn heerlijke stem. Hij wist de rust terug te brengen en betoverde de menigte met tijdloze nummers als So Long Marianne, Lady Midnight en Suzanne. Zijn band bestond uit Bob Johnston (Cohen’s Nashville-based Columbia A&R staff producer), de Nashville muzikanten Charlie Daniels (bass, fiddle), Ron Cornelius (lead guitar) en Elkin ‘Bubba’ Fowler (bass, banjo) en de zangeressen Corlynn Hanney, Susan Musmanno en Donna Washburn. Er is een cd en een dvd, met een uitzonderlijk goed geluid en gave beelden, gefilmd door Murray Lerner. Het was een geweldig concert, en het is geweldig dat wij, die er toen niet bij waren, het nu kunnen nabeleven!
