Met Post Pop Depression bracht Iggy Pop eerder dit jaar één van zijn beste studioalbums uit, maar naar eigen zeggen misschien ook het laatste. Er volgde een succesvolle tour met zijn studioband, waarvan de kern bestaat uit Joshua Homme, Dean Fertita (beide Queens of the Stone Age) en Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys). Voor de ongelukkigen die daar niet bij waren (zoals ondergetekende) is er nu Post Pop Depression Live, een dubbel-CD plus DVD van het optreden in de Londense Royal Albert Hall van 16 mei 2016. En FUCK ME, wat is dit briljant! De 23 nummers tellende setlist bestaat, naast materiaal van PPD, bijna volledig uit repertoire van The Idiot en Lust for Life, de meesterlijke comebackalbums die Iggy in de jaren 70 in Berlijn opnam met David Bowie aan de knoppen. De band, aangevuld met Troy van Leeuwen en Matt Sweeney, is in bloedvorm en vooral Homme speelt de sterren van de hemel. Maar alles draait natuurlijk om Iggy, die op zijn 69ste crowdsurft als een jonge hond, in no time een bloedende hoofdwond oploopt en onvergetelijke vertolkingen van o.a. Mass Production, Sister Midnight en Success neerzet. Als dit inderdaad Iggy’s afscheid is, dan is het meer dan waardig.
