MUKAI, SHIGEHARU

Shigeharu Mukai’s 1978 album Spacing Out is a spectacular, mind-bending masterclass in jazz-funk and cosmic fusion that genuinely feels like a space-age drug dream. Released as one of the early crowning achievements on Nippon Columbia's legendary Better Days imprint, the record finds the masterful trombonist radically breaking away from standard post-bop constraints. Instead, he blasts his listeners directly into orbit, crafting a dense, heavily textured sonic journey that seamlessly bridges deep underground grooves with trippy, electronic psych-jazz experimentations.
