Recensie
Skepta returns with his highly anticipated new album, *The Fork and Knife*. An album rooted in the sounds, energy, and culture of today’s Britain, yet with its sights firmly set beyond the country’s borders.
Shaped by decades spent in sound systems, clubs, and the rave scene, “The Fork and Knife” moves freely between grime, garage, house, jungle, and electronic music. At the center of it all is Skepta as a rapper, songwriter, and producer—reflecting his central role in rap and his instinct to continually push the sound forward.
The theme of identity runs like a common thread through the album. Skepta explores what it means to be British, the son of Nigerian immigrants, and to live between different cultures. Rather than viewing the diaspora as a struggle, “The Fork and Knife” sees it as a source of strength—a kind of superpower that has shaped Skepta’s resilience, work ethic, and creative instinct.
The visual world of “The Fork and Knife” draws on Nigerian-British imagery from the 1980s, soccer culture, and documentary realism, connecting the story of the Windrush generation with the energy and reality of modern London.
