The new album is the continuation of the iconic counterpart Confessions on a Dance Floor. Madonna sums up her new record best by quoting the first few lines of her song, One Step Away, “People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong. The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language.” Madonna adds “When Stuart Price and I first started working on this record, this was our manifesto”: We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies. These are things that we've been doing for thousands of years — they really are spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect — with your wounds, with your fragility. To rave is an art. It's about pushing your limits and connecting to a community of like-minded people. Sound, light, and vibration Reshape our perceptions Pulling us into a trance-like state. The repetition of the bass, we don’t just hear it but we feel it. Op haar 67ste doet de Queen of Pop er nog steeds alles aan om relevant te blijven. Door samen te werken met collega-artiesten en producers die tegenwoordig de dienst uit maken, blijft de sound van Madonna hedendaags en populair. Haar samenwerking met Stuart Price zorgde er – dankzij het album Confessions On A Dancefloor - twintig jaar geleden voor dat zijn status als producer als een komeet de lucht in schoot. Het album groeide uit tot een van de meest gewaardeerde platen binnen Madonna’s discografie. Heel slim dus om die geslaagde samenwerking van toen door te zetten. Madonna en Stuart Price formuleerden tijdens het maakproces van Confessions II een soort manifest als vertrekpunt: de dansvloer als spirituele ruimte waar mensen al eeuwenlang samenkomen, bewegen en verbinding zoeken – met elkaar én met zichzelf. Terwijl I Feel So Free met zijn deep house vibe inspeelt op een spiritueel gevoel, is Bring Your Love met Sabrina Carpenter natuurlijk gemaakt met ‘the next hit’ in het achterhoofd. Fragile gaat over Madonna’s relatie met haar overleden broer Christopher Ciccone met wie ze geen contact meer had toen hij eind 2024 overleed. Zeer persoonlijk dus, maar door de dansbare productie lukt het de Queen of Pop makkelijker om met haar emoties om te gaan.
