Kopers van het nieuwe album 'Stay Lonely' maken kans een set guitar picks erbij te krijgen!



Al meer dan twintig jaar timmert dit Britse duo aan de weg. Gitarist/zangeres Laura Mary Carter staat met drummer/zanger Steven Antell bekend om de combinatie van rauwe, energieke riffs met melodieuze zang. Na talloze optredens door de jaren heen heeft het duo niet ingeboet aan overtuigingskracht. In 2014 richtten ze hun eigen label op en ook nu is het hele proces weer zelf gedaan, van schrijven tot produceren. Stay Lonely bevat datgene wat de band zo onweerstaanbaar maakt: scheurende gitaren worden afgewisseld met rustige melodieën. Tien nummers waarop gitaar en drums weer duidelijk aanwezig zijn. Een album dat aantoont dat de chemie tussen beide muzikanten nog altijd overduidelijk aanwezig is. Soms hoeven artiesten niet een compleet nieuwe weg in te slaan en is voortbouwen iets anders dan stilstaan. Een album dat dan ook hopelijk veel aandacht krijgt tijdens de aanstaande Europese tournee. Blood Red Shoes are a raw, intense and unyielding rock duo based in Brighton, comprising guitarist and singer Laura Mary Carter and drummer and singer Steven Ansell. Formed in 2004, over the course of more than twenty years they have developed a distinctive sound that combines raw energy with melodic sharpness — a sound that is as dynamic as it is addictive when performed live.

Blood Red Shoes’ longevity is no accident, but the result of a rare chemistry: two trees growing in different directions, taking on different shapes above ground whilst their roots become entwined underground. That metaphor sums up well why the band has endured for over two decades now. Being together also creates tension; sacrificing much of your adult life to music creates a peculiar form of loneliness. The dedication to the project leaves less room for casual relationships or conventional life paths. That paradox — being together yet often feeling alone — is a recurring theme in their material: romantic, melancholic and unpretentiously honest.

The new album, which builds on that theme, is both a record of that shared history and a testament to their independent work ethic. The project was written, recorded, produced and mixed by the duo themselves — without a manager, A&R or external producer. That total control gives the album a direct, unrefined edge: no outside comfort, but also no filters that might soften the core of their sound. That DIY approach is consistent with a career that has often operated outside mainstream strategies; Blood Red Shoes have always charted their course based on artistic impulse and loyalty to their own aesthetic.
