Masahide Sakuma’s 1984 solo masterpiece Lisa is a breathtakingly intimate exercise in sonic world-building and a brilliant pivot from his post-punk roots. Moving away from the manic, new-wave energy of his former band Plastics, the multi-instrumentalist delivers a gentle, eclectic collage that blends ambient, avant-folk, and minimal electronic music into a seamless whole. Co-produced alongside the visionary Seigén Ono, the album functions like an architectural map of human emotion. It treats every song as a separate room in a house—some spaces are carved out for active curiosity, while others are built purely for quiet reflection and rest.
