Chris Staples is een zanger en songschrijver uit Pensacola, Florida die al zo’n 20 jaar aan
de weg timmert en de frontman was van bands als Discover America e en indierock band
Twothirtyeight.. Zijn nieuwe solo album is een ingetogen en ontroerend indie folk album.
Met zijn rauwe en melancholieke stem weet hij je diep te raken : dat overkwam ook Josh
Rosenfield , mede oprichter van Barsuk Records die getipt werd door Matthew Caws en
Michael Benjamins van Nada Surf. John Rosenfield zegt hierover: “The two songwriters of
Nada Surf raved about the album and insisted that Barsuk had to release it. The entire staff
of the label agreed heartily; the hooks are great-subtle and elegant- and his voice has a
soft raspy ease to it that i could listen to all day”. Amercian Soft is het debuut van Chris
