Kijk, deze box op lp-formaat ziet er bijzonder fraai uit. Op de voorkant prijkt Elvis in een herkenbare pose die gelijk aangeeft dat we met een vroeg Elvis te maken hebben. De ondertitel ‘The Complete ’56 Masters’ doet de rest. Bij beschouwing van de binnenkant blijkt de box veel meer te bevatten dan de ’56 masters. Naast twee schijven die deze enerverende periode bevat, zijn de andere drie schijven zeker zo interessant. Zo krijgen we een cd met drie vroege liveconcerten waarbij opvalt dat het optreden in Las Vegas voorzichtig is en zeker niet laat horen dat Elvis later furore zou vieren in deze stad. De vierde schijf laat enkele outtakes horen en een complete opname van de 3 februari sessies. De laatste schijf is gereserveerd voor interviews, samen met de sessieschijf waarschijnlijk degene die het minst gedraaid zal worden maar die zeker een interessante kijk geeft op de ontwikkeling van Elvis tot superster. Naast de fantastische muziek op de eerste drie schijven, samen met het Sun-werk de heilige graal van de rock ‘n’ roll en de twee rariteitenschijven bevat de box ook nog eens een prachtig boek boordevol haarscherpe foto’s uit die tijd en een tijdlijn. Naast deze gegevens wordt ook duidelijke info gegeven over de opnames en waar ze eerder terug te vinden waren. Met andere woorden niet alles op schijf 3 en 4 is nieuw materaal. Wel is alles voor het eerst bij elkaar gezet om zo een duidelijk beeld te geven. Tot slot is er ook een envelop bijgevoegd met reproducties van verschillende postertjes en flyers. Het fraaist zijn echter de vijf toegevoegde foto’s die Elvis laat zien in klassieke en minder klassieke poses. Young Man With The Big Beat is daarmee een werkelijk prachtige box geworden en als dit een voorbode is van wat er nog gaat komen kunnen we onze borst nat maken. Vijfenvijftig jaar oud en nog steeds klinkt het geheel fris en fabtastisch!
