The Great Divide, the highly anticipated new album from 2x Grammy Nominee Noah Kahan.
Dat de Amerikaanse singer-songwriter inspiratie vindt bij Mumford & Sons is geen geheim. Het geldt niet alleen voor zijn muziek, maar ook zijn eerlijke teksten. Hij put ook inspiratie uit het werk van Hozier, Paul Simon en Counting Crows. Zijn debuutalbum verscheen in 2019 en kreeg de bijzondere naam Busyhead mee. Later volgden de I Was/I Am (2021) en Stick Season (2022). De albums gaven hem veel bekendheid. In 2023 werd hij zelfs genomineerd voor een Grammy Award voor Beste Nieuwe Artiest. Zijn eerste internationale hit was een duet met Julia Michaels dat Hurt Somebody heet en nog steeds veel op Spotify wordt aangeklikt. Met Stick Season wist hij zelfs een eerste plek te bereiken in de Nederlandse Top 40. Gabe Simon die aan Stick Season meewerkte, verleende ook zijn medewerking aan het nieuwe album. The Great Divide is een opvallend persoonlijk plaat met liedjes waarin Noah Kahan via zijn muziek zijn diepste gevoelens uit waar hij al sprekend soms geen woorden voor kan vinden. (Rosanne de Boer)
"From a long silence forms a divide, a great expanse demanding attention. I stare across it. I see old friends, my father, my mother, my siblings, my younger self, the great state of Vermont. I want to scream these feelings, to gesticulate wildly at the figures on the other side, but my voice has grown hoarse and muted after years of climbing a ladder towards the wild, spiraling dreams that have materialized in front of me. Instead, I wrote them down next to a piano in Nashville, next to a pond in Guilford Vermont, in a legendary studio in upstate New York, on a farm with a firetower in Only, Tennessee. The songs are the words I would say if I could. They are the fears I dance with in the moments before I drift off to sleep. The music here is my best attempt to delve deeper into the people, places, and feelings that have made me who I am. I am grateful for all of it, for all of you, for listening to them, if you choose to do so."
