Voor het eerst in zes jaar brengt Paul McCartney een nieuw album uit. The Boys Of Dungeon Lane verschijnt op 29 mei en belooft volgens een persbericht ‘zijn meest introspectieve album’ te worden.
The Boys Of Dungeon Lane is het eerste album van de ex-Beatle sinds McCartney III uit 2020, waarop Sir Paul bijna alle instrumenten zelf inspeelde. Op zijn aankomende negentiende soloplaat blikt hij terug op zijn vormende jaren: van zijn jeugd in het naoorlogse Liverpool tot zijn eerste avonturen met collega-Beatles George Harrison en John Lennon. De albumtitel is afkomstig uit de song met de veelzeggende titel Days We Left Behind.
Over dat nummer zegt McCartney in een persbericht: “Vaak vraag ik me af of ik alleen maar over het verleden aan het schrijven ben, maar hoe kun je ook over iets anders schrijven? Er zijn gewoon veel herinneringen aan Liverpool. In het middenstuk zit een deel over John en Forthlin Road, de straat waarin ik woonde. Dungeon Lane is daar dichtbij. Ik woonde ooit op een plek die Speke heette en heel erg ‘working class’ was. We hadden niet veel, maar dat maakte niet uit, want de mensen waren geweldig en je had niet door dat je weinig had.”
Het is nu al een mooi jaar voor McCartney-fans, want onlangs verscheen de veelgeprezen documentaire Man On The Run over de eerste jaren na het uiteenvallen van The Beatles, toen hij zijn eigen band Wings oprichtte.(TEKST: Lust For Life magazine)
