Recensie

Erik Satie does not need an introduction, too well known is the compositional loner, whose short compositions characterised by simplicity and structural clarity seem to have fallen out of time. In 2016 the musical world celebrates Satie’s 150th birthday, he was born in May 1866 in Honfleur. Counting among his few elaborate and more extensive master pieces is besides his ballet „Parade“ the almost forgotten vocal piece »Socrate« on three Plato dialogues in French translation. Satie himself commented on the purpose of the composition that it was not meant but to highlight the beauty of the texts, a „gesture of piety“. Barbara Hannigan and Reinbert de Leeuw complement the main piece with a selection of songs from „Trois mélodies“ and „Trois autres mélodies“.
